Summer Term

Summer  1

We started off our last term in Reception, thinking all about 'dinosaurs'. In our topic work we looked at some facts about different dinosaurs and we had to find out if they were land or sea dinosaurs. We also learnt lots of new vocabulary such as herbivore, carnivore and omnivore, we also had a discussion if we were dinosaurs what type of dinosaurs we would be and why. The children had their very own paleontologist area, where they had to find the dinosaur bones and read the tricky words on the bones. The children were very excited as one of the days they came to school there was a dinosaur egg. We had to watch this egg very closely to see if it started to move, Then we came to school the next day there was another egg that we had to leave in water. After waiting a couple of days we were very lucky to see our water egg had started to crack and our other egg hatched right in front of our eyes. In phonics we have started our work on phase 4, children are decoding using their phonics knowledge and increasing their tricky word knowledge. In maths we are learning all about our number bonds to 10.

In September we started off by looking at our new school and new teachers, aswell as completing the NFER Baseline assessments. We did lots of learning on how to be kind of others and how we can learn make new friends.

Summer 2

This is our last half term in Reception but we are very excited to be learning about our new topic of 'pets'. We are excited to see what pets the children may have at home.

Also this half term we have sports day coming up - please see class dojo for more information.

We will also be meeting our new teachers for Year 1 soon and starting our transition.
