Dear Parents

We have looked at the weather forecast for Friday and it looks like the beautiful weather will still be with us. As our Sports Day is scheduled for the afternoon, can we remind you to make sure your children are wearing sunscreen on Friday and that they have a hat, a water bottle and extra sunscreen with them please.

We have taken out one of the events so that we can provide an extra rest station with drinks available and will also be providing extra shade.

As the event usually runs from approximately 1:30pm until almost 3:30pm, we may also bring the children inside for extra drinks halfway through.

If we feel the event needs to be shorter, we will postpone the relay races until another day.

In addition to the water which will be freely available, there will also be ice lollies for sale.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday afternoon.

Year 3,4,5,6 Staff

Welcome back to all the children after their Easter Break.

This term's topic is all about Living Things (plants, animals and humans).

Our Homework Menu for this team can be found below; children should complete at least one activity from each section and bring completed homework in on Monday 25th June. This will then be on display for Key Stage 2 parents to view on the afternoon of Wednesday 27th June.

Weekly Homework Tasks

  • To read at home at least 5 times per week, record the book and pages that have been read in their reading diary and parents to comment/sign. Your child will also benefit greatly if you talk to them about the characters, events and language used in their reading book. The children may also complete tasks on Read Theory as one of their Reading Tasks https://readtheory.org/
  • Learning multiplication and associated division facts from all times tables up to 12x12.
  • Learning any lists of spellings given to the children for weekly spelling tests (the children should also become familiar with spelling words from the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Statutory Spelling Lists).
  • Completing tasks on Maths Prodigy https://www.prodigygame.com/
Mrs Ashton has been working with the children on some traditional WW2 recipes. Please find copies of these below if you and your child wish to try some out at home! Let us know how they go and what you think of them!

Next week is an exciting week for all of us as Year 6 go on their residential trip to Standon Bowers and Year 5 go to Beaudesert, where they will be taking part in lots of outdoor adventurous activities, on Tuesday. (Year 5 - If you haven’t sent your child’s permission slip in, please do so as a matter of urgency as we are trying to make sure that all children have transport to and from Beaudesert.)

Year 6 should arrive at school at normal time on Monday morning and go to the hall with their suitcases. There will be separate boxes for the children to put medication, spending money and tuck into. Please make sure medication and spending money is labelled with your child’s name. You are very welcome to stay and wave your child off (normal departure time is usually between 9:20 and 9:30am) We will return by normal school home time on Friday afternoon.

Mrs Surplice, Mrs. Taylor, Miss Spink, Mrs. Coates and Mrs. Ashton

Welcome back to all of Year 5 and 6. We hope you've all had a lovely holiday and have returned refreshed and eager to learn lots of new things.

Welcome also to our new teachers, Mr. Bancroft and Miss Spink; we're sure you'll all help them to settle in quickly to Holly Grove.

Our topic this term is World War II so it would be brilliant if you could start finding information that could be useful in your topic lessons.

We'd also like you all to practise your times tables facts regularly so that you will find your maths lessons a little bit easier.

Year 6 will be looking forward to their Standon Bowers residential trip at the beginning of February (a copy of the Kit List and a medical form for parents to fill in will be sent out later on in January). We're hoping to arrange a special outing for Year 5 while Y6 are at Standon Bowers. Details will be given out as soon as we have confirmation so watch this space ........

Well done to all of Year 6 for your brilliant performances in the Leavers' Production last night. All of your hard work paid off and you achieved your goal to make the audience laugh throughout the evening. We're all very proud of you!

Thank you to all parents who sent their children in with donations towards our 'Soak the Teacher' fundraiser. Great fun was had by all, even those of us who ended up as drowned rats!
