Welcome to Holly Grove's Nursery page! Here you will find all sorts of information about what the children in Nursery are up to and we will regularly update the page with pictures and information for you all.
Over the last few weeks the children have shown an interest in the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. They have enjoyed using puppets to retell the story and are enjoying role playing the characters from the story in our home corner. The children have been categorising and ordering different sized items from the story using the language small, smaller, smallest, large, larger, largest.
Our hall time for P.E has been introduced and the children are trying very hard to become independent when taking off and putting on shoes and socks. They have been thinking about how baby bear, mommy bear, daddy bear and Goldilocks may move and have enjoyed putting this into practice.
Weekly Forest school sessions have started and the children have thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Please see the Forest school information below.
We have introduced our cookery sessions which will take place once every fortnight. For our first experience we made some porridge. The children talked about the observations they had made about the changes in the porridge oats from the beginning of the process to when they were cooked. Once the porridge was cooked the children had the opportunity to taste it and could even add a topping of their choice from lemon curd, strawberry jam or honey if they wished. Of course we had to watch out for Goldilocks in case she decided to eat it!
Next week the children will be experiencing a mini topic about Autumn. They will be using scissors to snip to create spikes on a hedgehog, looking at and talking about numbers when adding pegs onto a hedgehog for spikes and having a Forest school session. We will also continue with our P.E session and another cookery experience where we will be making some pumpkin cakes. On Friday the children are invited to wear something orange.
Having had such a busy first half term we hope you have an enjoyable holiday.
Forest School 12.10.16
Today we experienced our first forest school session for the new school year. We had a lovely time. First we talked about our rules and why we have them. Next we played games of Duck Duck Goose and Freeze. We then talked about the season autumn and looked for natural materials on the forest floor. As a group we sorted the items discussed what they looked like and felt like. Phew, we were so busy.
