Geography

Geography at Holly Grove :

Our Vision:

At Holly Grove Primary our curriculum provides all children with the ability to delvelop deeper and make connections to find out about our world.  We aim to inspire in our children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

 

Our vision is that Holly Grove pupils leave with an increased confidence and understanding of Geographical facts and vocabulary, as well as the skills to explore their world and become responsible and valued citizens in our society.  We also want our children to go on as adults to explore the diverse and beautiful world in which we live!

   

 

Our Progressive Geography Curriculum:

To ensure that teaching throughout Holly Grove is well covered and accessible for all, we follow the below Skill Progression for Geography. The progression of skills brings together the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage and the National Curriculum in a buildable teaching pathway. By following this document we can ensure that the skills and teaching within Geography are deepened each year and advanced on. Across the school, we use the document to support learners, extend learners and ensure that every child becomes the best geographer that they can be!

Subject Specific Vocabulary:

Our Geography curriculum ensures all children are taught and understand subject specific vocabulary. We then provide a range of opportunities for children to use such language within the correct context with confidence and fluency.

Here's what we have been up to!

Earth Day :

On the 21st of April, Holly Grove celebrated Earth Day. We started our celebration on Thursday with an assembly hosted by Miss Mantle. She read us all an incredible story about the importance of looking after our beautiful planet.

 

On the day, we took part in a range of activities. Nursery, Reception and Year 1 and 2 used various recycled materials to create beautiful displays. Year 3 and 4 got busy picking us litter that had appeared around our school grounds and Year 5 and 6 spent the morning in the dark 🌍💡. This year we wanted to help our planet by saving as much energy as possible, so we turned off all the computers and the teachers had to return to teaching with just a pen and whiteboard.

 

It was such a wonderful day and we all loved learning about how we can invest in our planet that we decided to bring recycling bins back into the classroom🌎💙.
