Year 5/6 Learn Road Safety with National Highways
This week, our Year 5/6 pupils took part in a live online session led by Sian Plant, a National Highways Traffic Officer featured on the Channel 5 programme The Motorway. The session focused on mobile phone safety in cars, helping children understand how small choices can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe on the road.
Through real-life scenarios and practical advice, pupils learned:
- Why it’s important not to distract the driver
- How to use mobile phones safely and responsibly in a car
- What risks are involved when passengers show drivers their phones
- Simple safety tips to stay alert and aware during journeys
One of the highlights was a live Q&A session, where pupils had the chance to ask questions and share their thoughts. The session encouraged children to think critically about their own habits and how they can help prevent accidents caused by distractions.
This engaging and informative lesson supports our pupils’ personal development and growing independence, giving them the tools to make safer choices — now and in the future.
