Year 2 outdoor Maths lesson
Outdoor Maths Fun in Year 2!
Today, Year 2 took their maths learning outside, making the most of the beautiful autumn sunshine! With nature as their classroom, the children used sticks, stones, and even leaves to explore tens and ones in a hands-on and creative way.
Working in pairs and small groups, they built numbers using natural materials, reinforcing their understanding of place value while enjoying the fresh air. The children showed fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm grow as they connected maths to the world around them.
One child shared:
“I really liked being outside doing maths! It was great fun!”
Outdoor learning helps children to:
- 🔢 Deepen understanding through practical activities
- 🌳 Connect learning to the environment
- 👫 Strengthen collaboration and communication
- 😊 Enjoy the benefits of fresh air and movement
Well done, Year 2! You proved that maths can be exciting, especially when it’s outside in the sunshine!
