Year 2 Shine Bright in Their First Florence Nightingale Lesson!
Year 2 stepped back in time this week as they began their brand‑new History topic all about Florence Nightingale — the famous “Lady with the Lamp.” And what an amazing start they made!
To begin their learning journey, the children worked in groups to explore their very first facts about Florence. They shared ideas, asked questions, and discovered who she was, why she is important, and how she helped to change hospitals forever.
But the real challenge came next…
🕵️♀️ Fact Hunt Fun!
Armed with curiosity (and plenty of enthusiasm), Year 2 went on a fact hunt around the room. Their mission?
To work together to decide which facts were true… and which were sneaky false ones trying to fool them!
There was lots of brilliant detective work as the children read clues closely, discussed their ideas, and checked facts with their teammates. You could almost hear their brains whirring!
🌟 Torch Values in Action
Throughout the lesson, Year 2 showed fantastic Torch Values, especially:
- Cooperation – working brilliantly in teams
- Tolerance – listening carefully to each other’s ideas
- Cooperation– making decisions together and helping one another succeed
It was wonderful to see them learning with such maturity, kindness, and enthusiasm.
This exciting first lesson has definitely sparked their interest — and we can’t wait to see what they discover next about Florence Nightingale and her impact on history.
Well done, Year 2 — super historians in the making! 📚💡✨
