🍎📊 Year 1 Get Tech‑Savvy with Pictograms! 📱✨

Our Year 1 children have been busy combining maths, computing, and a whole lot of creativity this week as they used iPads to make their very own pictograms of their favourite fruits!

The classroom was full of excitement as the children explored how to collect data (in this case — who likes bananas, apples, strawberries or grapes!) and then turn their findings into colourful pictograms using a child‑friendly app on the iPads. They absolutely loved seeing their choices appear as images on the screen, building a clear, visual chart of the class’s fruity favourites.

🍌🍓 Learning Through Technology

As part of their computing learning, the children also practised important keyboard skills, learning where different letters are on the keyboard and typing in labels for their charts. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they used both typing and touchscreen skills to bring their pictograms to life.

➕💻 Linking Maths and Computing

This activity was a brilliant example of how digital technology can support mathematical understanding. By collecting data, representing it visually, and explaining what their pictograms showed, the children were developing key skills in:

  • Data handling
  • Counting and comparing
  • Early statistics
  • Digital literacy and keyboard confidence

And of course, they had great fun doing it!

Well done, Year 1 — data scientists in the making!
