Reception Explore Winter at Forest School! 🌿✨

Our Reception children had a wonderful time in Forest School today as they continued to develop their Understanding the World skills through hands‑on exploration and discovery. With links to Geography and Communication and Language, the children spent the session learning all about winter and the changes we see at this time of year.

To begin, we introduced two new seasonal words:

  • Migration – when some animals travel to warmer places
  • Hibernation – when animals go into a deep sleep during the cold months

The children loved practising these new words and talking about the animals they already knew that migrate or hibernate.

🌬️ A Winter Walk of Discovery

We then wrapped up warm and headed outside for a special winter walk. Armed with curious eyes and excited chatter, the children searched for signs of the season. They found:

  • Shiny holly leaves
  • Crunchy ice
  • A beautiful frosty cobweb
  • And they even tried really hard to spot some catkins!

Every discovery sparked conversations, questions and plenty of wonder.

🌳 Exploring Our School Grounds

Reception explored everywhere — their outdoor classroom, the Forest School area, the KS2 playground and even the front of the school. Each space offered something new to spot and discuss.

It was a brilliant afternoon full of teamwork, imagination and enthusiastic learning.

Well done, Reception — super winter explorers! ❄️
