Nursery PE Fun — Starting Our New Topic: Fundamental Movement
This morning in PE, Nursery had a fantastic start to the Spring term as we began our new topic: Fundamental Movement.
The children explored different ways of moving using different parts of their bodies — jumping, stretching, balancing, marching and lots more! They also played two exciting new games: Watch the Teacher and Spot the Colour, which encouraged them to listen carefully, follow instructions and move with confidence.
🏃♀️ Why PE Is So Important in Nursery
Staying active at this age has so many benefits, and today’s session helped the children to:
💪 Build Gross Motor Skills
Running, jumping and balancing all help strengthen big muscles needed for future physical tasks, from climbing to early writing readiness.
🤸 Improve Coordination
Changing speed, direction and movement patterns helps children develop better control of their bodies.
🧠 Boost Concentration & Listening Skills
Games like Watch the Teacher support attention, memory and the ability to follow multi‑step instructions.
😊 Support Health & Wellbeing
Being active helps children feel happy, confident and full of energy — a brilliant start to the term!
Nursery had a wonderful PE session and we can’t wait to continue building our fundamental movement skills over the coming weeks. Great work, everyone! ⭐️
