Growing Our Own Beanstalks – Inspired by the Panto!
After our amazing trip to Tamworth to watch Jack and the Beanstalk yesterday, the children returned to school full of excitement — and ready for a challenge!
Their task: Build a beanstalk using any materials they wanted… but make it as tall as possible!
The classroom quickly transformed into a buzz of creativity. Children gathered paper, tubes, blocks, sticks, card, fabric and anything else they could find to design and construct their towering beanstalks. We saw fantastic teamwork, problem‑solving and imaginative thinking as groups planned together, tested ideas and adapted their structures to make them even taller.
Some beanstalks were curly, some were colourful, some were impressively tall — and all of them were unique!
🌟 Learning Through Real Experiences
Activities like this are so powerful because they link directly to real‑life experiences. After seeing the story brought to life on stage, the children were:
- More engaged and motivated, eager to recreate what they had seen
- Using language from the panto, retelling events as they worked
- Inspired creatively, bringing imagination into their designs
- Working collaboratively, just like the characters on stage
Real experiences give learning purpose. They help children make connections, deepen understanding and build lasting memories — all while having enormous fun!
We were incredibly impressed with the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork and creativity. Well done, everyone — your beanstalks might not reach the clouds, but they certainly reached new heights! 🌱✨
