Holly Grove Primary Academy

Green Tree Award

We’re delighted to share that Holly Grove School has been awarded the Gold Plaque in the Woodland Trust’s Green Tree Award initiative — a recognition of our commitment to outdoor learning and environmental education.

The Green Tree Award is a free program from the Woodland Trust that encourages schools to engage pupils in outdoor learning and environmental projects focused on woods, trees, and wildlife. Schools earn points for completing activities, with awards given at bronze, silver, gold, and platinum levels.

This initiative:

  • Promotes outdoor learning by providing structured activities and resources that help pupils connect with nature.
  • Enhances well-being, as time spent outdoors supports mental and physical health, reduces stress, and inspires creativity.
  • Fosters environmental awareness, encouraging pupils to become future conservationists and take action to protect the environment.

At Holly Grove, our Forest School program has been central to achieving this award. Miss Mantle and Mrs Spencer, our Forest School Leaders, shared:

“We are really proud of all the hard work the children have put into us getting this award. Forest Schools is central to our outdoor learning curriculum, and we do it throughout the school from Nursery to Year 6, throughout the whole year.”

We’re thrilled to see our pupils’ efforts recognised and remain committed to nurturing a love for nature and sustainability in our school community.
