Beacon Park Trip
Year one went on a trip to Beacon Park to look for signs of autumn. We had a fantastic time walking around the park and collecting leaves, conkers, acorns, and sweet chestnuts. We also had fun playing in the park.
When we got back to school we did observational drawings of the leaves we collected and used water colour pencils to colour them in. All the children behaved very well. Thank you to all the parent helpers who came with us on the trip.
Year One Autumn 2009
The first half term our topic was growth and change. We started by looking at ourselves focusing on our body parts and how people change as they grow up.
We then looked at the life cycle of the caterpillar using the Very Hungry Caterpillar as a stimulus. This led to some fantastic art work and creative writing. We then moved on to the growth and change of animals matching baby and adult animals. We finished the topic off using the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt to provide drama and collaborative writing opportunities.
The last week of the half term we studied Autumn as a mini topic. We started with a visit to Beacon Park to collect leaves, conkers, acorns etc. From this we have done art work, poetry, cooking and Maths.
After half term our topic is Light and Dark. We will be exploring light sources and deciding which are natural and which are artificial lights. We will then be experimenting to discover which materials are transparent, translucent and opaque.
After this we move on to learning about Neil Armstrong and the man landing on the moon.
We end the term with our Nativity play at the church, Christmas Craft Day and the pantomime at the Garrick Theatre.
