November Update 2011

This term Year 1 and 2 have been learning about The Great Fire of London. They had a brilliant time when History Off the Page came in for the day to teach them all of the traditional trades from 1666, from leather work, being a tailor to performing serious operations in the 'surgery'. They also discovered how we know so much about the fire in an archaeological dig.

They have learnt all about London, re-enacted the story in Literacy lessons, pretending to be the different characters; made information books; looked at the differences between then and now; learnt about fire safety; made real life sketches of and collaged Tudor houses and taken part in the Great Fire of London - Who wants to be a Millionaire!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed the topic and are now Great Fire of London experts!

Autum Update 2011

In our first week back we worked really hard. We thought about what we would like to achieve this year and made some magic wishes, casting them afloat on our magical pool.

In Year 2 Literacy the children had lots of fun searching for autumn leaves to help them write some beautiful poetry. Here are two of the children's leaf poems…

My leaf is as lumpy as a camel
As prickly as a gecko
As tiny as an ant
As curvy as a circle
Twirling, twilling leaves

My leaf is as wrinkly as an old lady
As colourful as a rainbow
As curvy as a leaf
As spiky as a hedgehog
Autumn is starting
